At a time when folks are looking for a good deal on a great car, Hyundai may be providing just that: the North American Car of the Year can be had for as little at $22,000 while its tuner ready R-Spec will hit the street at $23,750.
With the introduction of the R-Spec, Hyundai continues the relationship it has with the tuner crowd. It comes with track-tuned suspension, 19-inch gunmetal-finish alloy wheels with performance summer tires, Brembo braking system, Torsen limited-slip differential and R-Spec badging; however, it’s priced $3,000 less than the highest price Genesis Track, which means tuners can take the extra cash and tweak the coupe at will, according to Hyundai officials.
The R-Spec will be available in three performance oriented exteriors colors: Karussell White, Bathurst Black and Tsukuba Red. It is expected to arrive in dealer showrooms as a mid-2010 model year introduction.
Hyundai Motor America announced pricing for the full Genesis lineup today. The coupe starts at $22,000 for a well-equipped 210 hp, 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine 2.0T model and $25,000 for the 306 hp, 3.8-liter, V6 engine model. The 2.0-liter tops out $26,750 while the 3.8-liter can be equipped up to a price tag of $31,000.
In an upset, the Genesis was named the North American Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show beating out the expected winner, the Ford Flex. It is the first Korean-built car to capture the title.
Genesis Coupe will begin arriving at Hyundai dealerships later in the month, according to Hyundai officials.
“The Genesis sedan set a new benchmark for the premium sedan segment and we think Genesis Coupe will do the same in the sport coupe arena,” said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America president and chief executive officer. “From our 30 mpg 2.0T with its low-pressure, intercooled, four-cylinder turbo, to the 3.8-liter Track model with 306 hp and Brembo braking system, Genesis Coupe offers a wide range of powertrain and performance choices for driving enthusiasts of all stripes.”
