Ferrari continues its tradition of introducing both production and concept cars that ultimately appear at the Geneva motor show.
Production comes in the guise of a Handling GT Evoluzione (HGTE) Package for the 599 GTB Fiorano. The marketing savvy company uses 599 for the displacement of its V12 engine; GTB as in Gran Turismo Berlinetta, after famous Ferrari berlinettas of the past; and Fiorano after the private track it uses to develop its Formalu One and road cars — thereby inserting a full image ad campaign into the badge. The all-aluminum, two-seat coupe will “set a new benchmark of excellence in the sports car world,” Ferrari modestly claims.
With its 620 horsepower 5,999-cc V-12 engine, the 599 GTB Fiorano reaches 62 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed in excess of 205 mph. Its F1-derived gearbox shifts in 100 milliseconds. Also among the sophisticated elements are F1-Trac traction and stability control, and a magnetorheological (MR) fluid suspension for body control.
Also due is the world unveiling of the 599XX by Ferrari Chairman
Luca di Montezemol, which incorporates the most advanced technologies, unspecified so far, coming from Ferrari’s road-going and F1 research. Many of the technological solutions it carries are said to be used for the first time. They have been developed exclusively for this car. More details will emerge as soon as TDB can verify them.
