Workmen install the first of three GM logos on the Renaissance Center’s 740 foot high, 73-floor hotel tower to identify the complex as General Motors Global Headquarters as part of the Center’s $500 million redevelopment program. The first logo, facing southwest is 25 feet x 25 feet, nearly two tons, made out of aluminum frame with a Panaflex 3M vinyl material. It will be lighted by 36 metal Halide 400-watt lamps (each lamp has a 10,000 hour lifespan); changeable lamps via 24 doors on back of the logo structure. Two additional logos will be installed by early November: one facing east and one facing north. The logos will be illuminated when the installation is completed.
