The battery for a new 2011 Buick hybrid crossover vehicle is prepared for testing at the General Motors Tech Center in Warren, Michigan Wednesday, August 5, 2009. The Buick plug-in hybrid will use the same advanced lithium-ion battery cells as the Chevrolet Volt. The 8 kwh battery – containing half the energy of the Volt battery pack – will be packaged in a rectangular-shaped box under the cargo floor. The vehicle is expected to be the first commercially available plug-in hybrid SUV produced by a major automaker. (Photo by Jeffrey Sauger for General Motors)
