A key component of the luxury market is exclusivity.  Okay, leather, wood, carbon fiber and high-performance engines don’t come cheap, but those willing to spend the really big dollars are looking, as much as anything, to have a product they won’t see parked next to them at the shopping mall or country club.

And so, for those who think that even a Ferrari, Bentley or Rolls-Royce is a bit too commonplace, Lamborghini is weighing in with the Reventon Roadster, an open-top version of the already exclusive Lamborghini Reventon 2-seater.

The numbers suggest that Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winklemann is probably on target when he describes the open-top supercar as “the most extreme car in the history of the brand.”

The all-wheel-drive supercar’s 6.5-liter V12 makes 670 horsepower, and 487 pound-feet of torque, enough to punch it to a top speed of 206 mph.  For U.S. drivers, saddled with restrictive speed limits, they’ll still be able to boast 0 to 100 kmh times (0 to 62.5 mph) of a factory-timed 3.4 seconds.

The Reventon is, “a mobile piece of art,” proclaimed CEO Winkelmann, during a preview of the Reventon at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.  Like all Lambos, the 2010 Reventon Roadster has an almost otherworldly look, like something from a sci-fi vision of another planet where fuel remains abundant and regulators don’t worry about global warming.

With its low-slung form and Lambo’s huge signature air intakes, the Reventon Roadster resembles not so much mere transportation as an F22 Raptor fighter jet.  All that’s missing are the rockets.

The interior is equally striking.  While some sports cars are almost Spartan inside, the 2010 Lamborghini Reventon Roadster is regally outfitted, with plenty of alcantra suede.  The fascia for the gauge cluster, meanwhile, has been carved from a single billet of aluminum.

The roadster’s top folds away in a heartbeat.  For safety’s sake, pop-up rollover bars, hidden behind the driver’s and passenger’s heads, operate even more quickly, in the event the car should tip.

If you have a cool $1.5 million, you can place your order, with production set to begin in October.  You might want to move quickly, in face, considering Lambo intends to make the 2010 Reventon Roadster about as exclusive as possible, with only 15 scheduled to be built.
