ZDX joins a growing list of sporty crossovers.

With a panoramic roof that stretches from the windshield to the tailgate, the production-ready version of the 2010 Acura ZDX is making its formal debut, this week, at the Orange County Auto Show.

The ZDX – like the new 2010 Honda CrossTour that it shares its underpinnings with – is taking aim at an all-new model segment, blending sports coupe with crossover, perhaps the best existing example being the recently-launched BMW X6.

The 2010 Acura ZDX is the first vehicle to be designed at the new Acura Design Studio, in Torrance, California, and the production version stays surprisingly true to the original concept penned by Acura’s first female designer, Michelle Christensen.

The sports car-like profile is likely to be the most notable visual cue, but perhaps the most distinctive design feature of the ZDX is the panorama glass roof, which Acura claims is the largest single sheet of glass in the auto industry.  A more subtle touch helps cover the fact that this is actually a four-door model, the rear door handles concealed in the ZDX’s C-pillars.

The high-line interior, meanwhile, features a hand-stitched leather dash and door panels.

The 2010 Acura ZDX is powered by a 3.7-liter V-6 making 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque.  That drives all four wheels using the Japanese luxury maker’s Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system, which can use torque vectoring to help turn more confidently and aggressively through corners.

The 2010 Acura ZDX will reach showrooms across the U.S. by winter.
