The numbers are alarming. One in nine seniors – five million people – is facing the threat of hunger every day, according to the Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA). It is projecting that 75% more seniors will be facing the threat of hunger by 2025.
MOWAA represents local senior nutrition programs in urban, suburban and rural communities in every state in America. Through some 5,000 independently run and operated meal delivery and congregate meal programs, MOWAA volunteers deliver more than one million nutritious meals per day to hundreds of thousands of seniors nationwide.
In an effort to combat this growing problem MOWAA and Bridgestone Retail Operations, (BSRO), have just announced a national partnership.
“Bridgestone Retail Operations truly is a company with a conscience and we are very pleased that they have partnered with our organization to help provide the next meal to seniors across the country,” said Enid Borden, President and CEO of MOWAA. “Together, we can and we will drive away senior hunger.”
BSRO operates what it says is the largest network of company-owned automotive service providers in the world, including Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, ExpertTire and Wheel Works locations.
The partnership will focus on increasing awareness, funding and volunteers for Meals on Wheels programs nationwide. Activities will include fundraisers and volunteer recruitment. In addition, Members of MOWAA and volunteers will receive “special offers on tires and services” at BSRO’s network of locations.
“We are proud to be a national partner of this important organization that works to end senior hunger,” said Larry Magee, Chairman, and CEO & President of BSRO. “BSRO’s support of MOWAA is a logical fit. Through our more than 2,000 retail locations nationwide, we will be able to help the hundreds of thousands of volunteers who drive each day ‘so no senior goes hungry.'”
