Intermittent function can destroy the relay.

Chrysler is recalling about 85,000 Dodge Nitro models for windshield wiper failures.

Continental Automotive supplies what is called the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) relay, and it can fail, especially if the intermittent mode is used.

On January 22, 2007, TIPMs with updated software went into production at Chrysler Toledo North Assembly Plant.

Dealers will inspect and add external relays and update the totally integrated power module software to control the wiper functions. The safety recall is expected to begin during November 2009.

Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-835-1403.

Owners may also contact the NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
