Will there be more bankruptcy related quality problems from new suppliers?

Chrysler is recalling 13,000 model year 2009 and 2010 passenger vehicles equipped with rear wheel drive.

Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger and Charger model may have been built without a front-wheel spindle nut, as the result of a new supplier coming on board after the existing one went bankrupt.

Affected cars were built from August 4 through September 28, 2009.

The company, which has been struggling with its quality for decades, said that while driving, “a tire and wheel separation could occur increasing the risk of a crash.”

Dealers will inspect the tire and wheel assembly and if found without a spindle nut it will be repaired free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin during October 2009. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-835-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to http://www.safercar.gov. This is NHTSA Campaign Id Number: 09V-420.
