Chevrolet will offer a Camaro Synergy Special Edition in “limited quantities” starting next month and continuing through May — limited no doubt by the number they can build for one of the hottest cars on the market.
Synergy Special Edition, starting at $26,790, is based on a Camaro 1LT, with a 3.6-liter direct injection V6 engine and either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The V6 delivers 304 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, and returns up to 29 mpg on the highway, but only 17 mpg in the city.
Another classic pony car battle is shaping up here as Ford also plans a ~30 mpg, 300-plus horsepower V6 Mustang late this year as a 2011 model in what are the waning days of the American V8 engine in large volume cars because of increasingly stringent fuel economy regulations.
Ford is claiming one more horsepower and one more mpg for the Mustang, two marketing driven numbers that will likely be meaningless to the buyers.
The Synergy Green exterior color debuted at the 2009 Specialty Equipment Manufacturers (SEMA) show. In the final production form, the Synergy Green has Cyber Grey Rally Stripes running the length of the hood and rear deck. A rear spoiler is standard. And Sterling Silver painted wheels have P245/50R19 tires.
The interior continues the theme with a green instrument panel and door inserts. Green stitching contrasts with the black cloth seats, steering wheel, shift knob and center console.
“Synergy Green continues a long tradition of dramatic Camaro colors,” says Camaro historian Scott Settlemire. “Some of the most sought-after Camaros are first generation cars – those from 1967 to 1969 – in Hugger Orange, Daytona Yellow, and Rallye Green.”
“Just as those colors helped make the first generation Camaro an icon, modern colors like Inferno Orange, Rallye Yellow Transformers Edition and Synergy Green will define the 2010 Camaro,” Settlemire said.
The Special Edition also includes the Camaro Convenience and Connectivity Package, with Bluetooth phone connectivity, USB port for MP3 players, and remote vehicle start for models equipped with an automatic transmission.
