The v-version of Cadillac's new 2011 CTS Coupe has the marque's most powerful engine ever.
The pics make it official. As TheDetroitBureau.com first reported, more than a month ago, Cadillac will introduce a new member of its performance v-Series line-up at next week’s North American International Auto Show, the CTSv Coupe.
The base Coupe hasn’t even hit the road yet, but the photos reveal some notable differences between the so called “base” car and performance version, starting with the chromed mesh grille that reportedly doubles the 2-door’s intake air volume. You’ll also notice the raised center of the hood, which provides clearance for the supercharger, as well as dedicated new front and rear fascias. The 2011 Cadillac CTSv Coupe’s rear track is an inch wider than the CTS sedan’s, giving it a more aggressive stance.
Like the standard-edition Cadillac CTS Coupe, the v-model’s exhaust is centered inside the rear fascia, but with unique twin outlets. The CTSv Coupe rolls out on 19-inch cast aluminum wheels, either painted or polished, with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 performance tires. There are Brembo brakes at all four corners – six-piston calipers up front, four-piston calipers in the rear.

But what really matters is the fast-beating heart of the car, and the Cadillac CTSv Coupe shares its engine with the CTSv sedan, a 556-horsepower, supercharged V8. The 6.2-liter powerplant makes a blinding 551 pound-feet of torque and is the most powerful engine ever offered by Cadillac. The maker claims a 0 to 60 time of just 3.9 seconds, which puts it into supercar range.
Buyers will get the option of either a 6-speed dual-clutch Tremec manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic that uses “Performance Algorithm Shifting” to enhance aggressive driving. The paddle shifters can be operated without putting the shifter into the manual position.
While the Coupe – both base and v-Series editions – isn’t expected to generate a lot of volume for Cadillac, it is intended to serve as a halo car to show that General Motors’ flagship brand is again taking aim at being a serious luxury contender, says Bryan Nesbitt, the marque’s general manager.
“This combination of visual and technical attributes is designed to create a very compelling choice for luxury sports car consumers,” he claims.
