Good things, it’s said come to those who wait. Seven years, it turned out, for Chevrolet to bring back the Camaro, now one of the hottest cars on the market. But for those who’ve been longing to see Chevy’s pony car pace the annual Indianapolis 500, the wait has been even longer. ( See Camaro SS to Pace 2010 Indy 500)
The good news is that Camaro will be back at the Brickyard, next month, for the first time since 1993.
Even better news is the fact that the maker will be offering a 2010 Chevy Camaro Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Limited Edition.
“We set out to build a collectible vehicle that will appeal to the die-hard Camaro and Indianapolis 500 fan,” says Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President, Chevrolet Marketing.
The replica starts out as a factory-ready Camaro SS, but it gets a once-over that includes a variety of features lifted from the actual pace car, Chev claims, including unique seats with the 2010 Indianapolis 500 race logo embroidered onto each of the front bucket seats.
Other features include:
- 20-inch polished aluminum wheels;
- Full body White Pearl decal rally stripes;
- Inferno Orange heritage front grille;
- Inferno Orange engine cover;
- Premium floor mats with accent colors;
- 2010 Indianapolis 500 event logo decal on both doors; and
- 2010 Indianapolis 500 event logo badges on front fenders.
The 2010 Chevy Camaro Indianapolis 500 Pace Car replica will be powered by the pony car’s stock 400-horsepower 6.2-liter V8, mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The limited-edition model is the fourth Indy pace car replica Chevy has offered, over the years. The maker plans to produce “up to” 200 copies, and they’ll only be offered through 187 specially-chosen Chevrolet dealers.
Price for the 2010 Chevy Camaro Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Limited Edition is set at $41,950, which includes $850 in destination charges.
