American Honda Motor Company is recalling more than 167,000 Acura TSX cars for a defective power steering hose that can leak and possibly cause an engine fire.
Honda told the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration that high under hood temperatures might cause the hose to “deteriorate prematurely,” which could cause the hose to crack and leak power steering oil.
If the oil leaks onto a hot exhaust manifold, then a fire could result.
Model year 2004 through 2008 TSX’s are affected by this safety related defect. Honda first received a report of a fire in September of 2009.
Honda will notify owners on or about May 28, 2010. Owners may contact Acura client services at 1-800-382-2238. Honda’s recall campaign number is R35.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov. NHTSA Campaign ID number:10V174000.
