Leaking brake line can affect stopping distance.
Chrysler Group LLC is starting a safety recall involving more than 26,000 2010 model Dodge Nitro, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Liberty and Ram 1500 vehicles for a bad brake line connection from the master cylinder to the hydraulic control unit (HCU).
Some vehicles may have been built with a brake tube with an improperly formed flare that could leak fluid and lead to reduced braking performance.
Chrysler says it is not aware of any complaints, accidents, injuries or property damage related to this defect.
The problem was discovered internally through “improved quality control processes.” Authorized dealers will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all potentially affected vehicles to inspect and replace the brake line. The recall will be completed at no cost to the customer as required by U.S. law.
In total, 26,573 2010 Dodge Nitro, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Liberty and Ram 1500 vehicles are affected – 20,637 United States; 3,439 Canada; 538 Mexico; and 1,959 in international markets.
