A notable Giugiaro design started the sales run.

At the VW Automóveis Ltda. plant in Portugal today the hundred-thousandth third-generation Scirocco rolled off the production line.

Since its launch in 1974, this compact sports coupe has been the most successful Volkswagen two-door, with more than 800,000 sold to date.

Another notable Giugiaro coupe is the breathtaking beautiful Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint, of course, but it is the exact opposite of the original angular Scirocco.

The 100K model is a Scirocco R 2.0 TSI, in “Rising Blue Metallic,” with a black interior, radio navigation system, and a tilting sunroof.

Volkswagen also produces the Volkswagen Eos, the new Sharan and, since 2008, the third generation of a reborn Scirocco at the plant.

Milestones!

Since last May, VW owns a 90.1% stake in Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A. (IDG), Turin. (See Volkswagen Takes Over Italdesign Giugiaro) Volkswagen has cooperated with IDG and Giugiaro for decades.

Giugiaro became famous with his Golf I design. He then went on with concepts for high volume models such as the first Volkswagen Passat, the Scirocco and the Audi 80, to name just a few. Volkswagen and IDG are now working on the planned Volkswagen Up! model family vehicle, among others.

Giorgetto Giugiaro and Aldo Mantovani founded IDG in Turin in 1968. Both founders are among the leaders of Italian automobile design. Italdesign is also known for its development center. Today, the company generates sales of more than €100 million and has a workforce of 800 employees.
