Hyundai-Kia is recalling 2010 Soul and 2011 Sorrento vehicles because of wiring harnesses that can cause fires.
The potentially defective vehicles were made from September 7, 2009 through July 30, 2010. Some wiring harnesses supplied by JCI used for the lighting in the Kia Soul’s “advanced” lighting speakers, located in the front door trim panels, and the Kia Sorrento’s interior accent illumination, located in the front- and rear-door trim panels, may have badly soldered connections.
In a report to NHTSA, Kia said that “when the lights are illuminated under certain conditions, an electrical short may occur that can result in a fire.”
Dealers will replace the affected wiring harnesses at no owner cost as required by U.S. regulations. The safety recall is expected to begin during September 2010. Owners may contact Kia consumer assistance center at 1-800-333-4542 about SC083.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov. NHTSA Campaign Id Number: 10V388000.
