The new muscle king in the Jaguar line-up, the XKR-S.

For some folks, 510 horsepower just isn’t enough.  That’s why Jaguar will roll into the Geneva Motor Show with the XKR-S Super Coupe.

Its debut coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the launch of the legendary Jaguar E-Type, the XKR-S will deliver a whopping 550 hp and 502 lb-feet of torque, enough the maker says, to propel it from 0 to 60 in just 4.2 seconds – on the way to a top speed of 186 mph.

Details will be released at the Geneva Motor Show, but the powertrain is reported to be a modified version of the current XKR’s 5.0-liter V8.

“We expect to attract both loyal and new Jaguar driving enthusiasts who still want the comfort, opulence and class only a Jaguar can offer, combined with inspirational performance,” proclaims Jag’s new global brand executive, Adrian Hallmark.

It will be a big show – anchoring a big model-year – for Jaguar.  The British maker is also expected to reveal the B99 Concept, a Bertone-penned prototype that is likely to serve as a model for a new small car, the much-anticipated replacement for the old and largely unloved Jaguar X-Type. Jaguar made plenty of headlines, in recent months, with the C-X75 hybrid-electric show car, a supercar that combines a twin turbine generator with a battery drive system the maker claims could nudge it towards 200 mph.

Jaguar officials publicly contend they are “studying” the feasibility of the C-X75, especially considering the overwhelming media and public response, but CEO Carl-Peter Forster tells TheDetroitBureau.com that a big challenge is a lack of engineering resources, what with the Jaguar team focusing on more mainstream models desperately needed to flesh out the line-up.
