Listening to Victor Muller, last summer, it was easy to hear the car enthusiast that, at his core, he is.
He dreamed a little, while speaking at the Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, about building a new small Saab, returning the automaker he had just salvaged from the scrapheap of history, to its roots.
Now, just a year after Muller’s Spyker Automobiles swallowed the much larger Saab, he might be getting his wish.
Saab has already said the new 9-5 SportCombi – Saab-speak for wagon – will make it’s world debut at the Geneva Auto Show. But Saab also said it will introduce a new design concept – a new 9-2 perhaps?
Saab will also show special editions of the 9-3 and 9-3 convertible, as well as the upcoming 9-4x crossover.
The Swedish automaker has already inked a deal with BMW to provide 1.6-liter turbocharged four cylinder engines for future Saab models, which would seem to be another indicator for a new small Saab.
The concept will be a watershed moment for Saab, which Muller and Spyker rescued last year. It will be the first vehicle shown since Jason Castriota signed on as design director and it surely has taken the lion’s share of his time.
