The 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty Platinum.

Watch any manly-man TV show and you’re certain to see the commercials featuring manly men doing tough guy stuff with their pickups, hauling trailers, building roads, blasting mountains into piles of rubble.  No wonder makers such as Ford like to talk about horsepower, towing capacity and other measures of brute power.

But, it seems, those truck powers are more like the rest of the world in also wanting plenty of creature comforts, the sort of things you might measure by the number of speakers or the wattage of the amp.

No wonder, then, that Ford says it will make its toughest work trucks decidedly more luxurious and comfortable, adding such niceties as Sync, MyFordTouch, leather and 10-way power seats to its 2013 F-Series Super Duty line-up.

Notably, the Deroit maker is adding an all-new Platinum Series model to the 2013 Super Duty range.

A bold face with some subtle details.

“The F-Series Super Duty Platinum is the latest expression of Built Ford Tough truck luxury,” said Brian Rathsburg, F-Series Super Duty Marketing manager. “It has a distinct appearance and a long list of features to deliver a superior experience. Along with that, it has all of the capability F-Series trucks are famous for.”

The bottom line for truck buyers is the ability to handle some serious chores.  And the Platinum Series pickup – available in F-250, F-350 and F-450 configurations – offers either the 6.2-liter gasoline engine or stump-pulling 6.7-liter PowerStroke diesel.

But even then, it puts an emphasis on style, with a perforated mesh grille and satin chrome surround, and monochromatic bumper and chrome hooks.  The door handles, mirror caps, running board and exhaust tips are also finished in chrome, with the tailgate finished with a satin chrome applique.

A features laden cabin distinguishes the 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty Platinum edition.

The new 2013 F-Series Super Duty Platinum rides on 20-inch polished aluminum wheels with painted black inserts.

The interior is far from the Spartan classic trucker’s cabin, with plenty of leather and wood accents.  The steering wheel is not only leather wrapped but heated.  And those new captain’s chairs offer, for the driver, 10-way adjustability.

Standard features include not only Sync and the MyFordTouch system – with its 8-inch LCD display – but a rearview camera, navigation, power-adjustable pedals, a tilt/telescope steering wheel and more.

To remind buyers that this is a serious work truck, Ford notes that the MyFordTouch system features separate audio and climate controls to make it easy to operate even while wearing heavy gloves.

The fact is manly men – and tough women – still need to do some heavy lifting to pay for a truck like the 2013 F-Series Super Duty Platinum.
