We’ve been overwhelmed with all the wild and wonderful entries readers have submitted for the first Wild, Weird and Wacky Street Signs Contest. But if you’ve been waiting with a great shot of your own, better get it in now. We’re getting ready to close down the submission form and hand things over to our judges – who are going to have a tough time sorting through all the entries we’ve gotten so far.
The winners will be announced over the Labor Day holiday and stand to win a number of great prizes – including a $500 gift certificate from our sponsor Bridgestone, a digital camera and more!

As we’ve mentioned, some interesting patterns have emerged in the contest. That includes some truly bizarre attempts to use English in other countries – like this one at Tokyo’s Nissin Supermarket. We have a feeling we should take this warning deadly seriously. Thanks to Ed Paternak.
Then there are the official signs posted by city, state and federal highway departments that, well, do more to confuse than clarify things for motorists. Can anyone even guess what this “No Parking” sign is trying to tell us? Thanks to Paul Gassler of Rosemount, Minnesota.
How many times have you started to cross an intersection only to see another driver ignore a Stop sign or red light? We have a feeling that doesn’t happen quite as often at this crossroads near Ft Huachuca, Arizona, the sign submitted by reader Lloyd Hill.
We can only wish it were this easy to get to Paradise, but as reader Patrick Gallagher discovered near Lake Sylvan, on the South Island of New Zealand, be careful what you wish for. Once you get to Paradise, it seems, there’s no way out.
Then there’s little Metropolis, Illinois where, it seems, fantasy comes to life — see the first pic in this gallery. We’re hoping there’s no kryptonite in the soil there. We realize some of the images have been a little odd, some quite a bit over the top, but as reader Rob Kem’s entry suggests with a sign he snapped at an intersection in Butler Country, Pennsylvania, sometimes you just have to Grinn & Barret.
Finally, make sure you get your last-minute entries in now. Otherwise you could be in the same situation as reader Danielle Enos who came upon this sign at the Ponderosa Ranch near Utah’s Zion National Park.
