Dodge will revive the Daytona nameplate.

After splitting off the Ram truck brand, Dodge is planning to put more emphasis on its performance roots – as it will emphasize during the upcoming LA Auto Show with the debut of the new Charger Daytona.

If the name is familiar, no surprise, the Daytona name being used on a number of Chrysler products over the years – though it hasn’t been part of the line-up since 2009. Now it’s back in limited-edition form as a late entry for the 2013 model-year.

The Chrysler Group performance brand is billing the 2013 Dodge Charger Daytona as a “modern-day muscle car,” and backing it up with some impressive numbers, with a 370-horsepower Hemi V-8 under the hood.

Only 2,500 copies of the Charger Daytona will be produced for 2013.

The package also includes Satin Black hood stripes, a black roof wrap and a big R/T spoiler. The Daytona also gets 20-inch polished aluminum wheels.

Inside, the new models gets special Daytona Blue embroidery, stitching and piping, the cabin complemented with dark brushed aluminum trim and a bright Mopar pedal kit.  For those who measure performance in watts, rather than horsepower, the 2013 Dodge Charger Daytona will be able to blast the competition off the road with a 552-watt, 10-speaker Beats Audi package.

Only 2,500 of the new Daytonas will be built – each car getting a custom plaque reminding you of where you were in line.

The Daytona package will come as a $2,995 option on the 2013 Dodge Charger R/T – for a total price of $32,990. With the R/T Road and Track model it will add $2,500 to the base, for a total of $36,495.

The Dodge Charger Daytona will make its official debut at the LA Auto Show later this week.
