While you’re downtown for this year’s Detroit auto show, make some time to stop by the Compuware Building, to see works by some of the world’s best automotive artists.
This will be the second-annual Detroit Knows Cars Automobile Art Exhibit. It runs Jan. 10-27 in the Compuware lobby.
“More than a dozen artists for whom the automobile is a central theme present their amazing works in this free public space,” co-organizer Steve Purdy said.
Designed to bracket the North American International Auto Show, Detroit Knows Cars opens on Thursday, Jan. 10, with a free artists reception scheduled for Friday, Jan. 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit will run through Sunday, Jan. 27, featuring both paintings and photography from some of the most accomplished and respected automobile artists.
The Detroit Knows Cars Automobile Art Exhibit is sponsored by Compuware, TheAutoChannel.com, dBusiness Magazine, Productions Plus/The Talent Shop, Shunpiker Productions and Wild Rose Pictures.
Producers of the exhibit, Mark Ducker and Purdy, plan to use this show as a springboard to next year’s goal of producing an automobile art competition with cash Awards of Excellence to be judged by experts who will bring works from the finest artists in the country to a venue in downtown Detroit.
To turn the show into an internationally renowned art show, Purdy said the key will be getting major sponsors on board. In an exclusive interview with TheDetroitBureau.com, Purdy said the pair would like to offer three $5,000 Awards of Excellence, three honorable mentions of $500 each and a People’s Choice Award for $2,000.
