No fluke, this undersea delight.

Barnacles!  As SpongeBob SquarePants might say, “the best thing about secrets is telling someone else your secret.” And, it seems, Toyota has revealed a “secret collection of secrets,” though in this case, not so secretely.

If you’re actually familiar with the popular cartoon character and his friends in the depths of Bikini Bottom, you’re likely reading on, otherwise you might be screaming as loud as SpongeBob did when he discovered the recipe for Crabby Patties was stolen on his watch.

Apparently, among the high-energy characters fans are the folks at Toyota’s product planning department. How else – besides ratings – can you explain the maker’s special, one-of-a-kind SpongeBob 2014 Toyota Highlander that made its debut during nickelodeon’s SpongeBob Day at the Padres vs Giants baseball game in San Diego over the weekend.

But where are the Crabby Patties?

“We are thrilled to partner with Toyota to produce this truly unique SpongeBob SquarePants-themed Highlander,” said Pam Kaufman, Chief Marketing Officer, Nickelodeon Group. “Through the ‘Happy Driving!’ program, SpongeBob fans across the nation will have a chance to interact with SpongeBob in a whole new, four-wheeled way.”

Along with a wrap designed to make the, well, squarish Toyota Highlander look like everyone’s favorite aquatic invertebrate, the interior has been done up in bright yellow, the seats bearing likenesses of such SpongeBob cartoon favorites as Patrick and Squidward, as well as the happy little fella himself.

The specially wrapped Toyota crossover will be heading out to seven California locations between now and the end of November, wrapping up its tour during the annual Los Angeles Auto Show running from November 30 to December 9.

“We are pumped and honored to partner with Nickelodeon, and especially SpongeBob, to help launch the all-new 2014 Highlander. Like the Highlander, SpongeBob is family friendly and just plain fun – what more could you want in a family vehicle and cartoon?” said Jack Hollis, VP of marketing, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

As you’d expect, this cross-promotional venture has a lot of promotional opportunities to tap into, including its own website at www.nick.com/highlander. It features online games, a behind-the-scenes video showing the making of the SpongeBob Highlander, and even a sweepstakes offering someone a chance to win the Toyota crossover.
