Subaru is introducing its 2015 Legacy Concept this week in Tokyo.

Little Japanese maker Subaru has a big week ahead – one straddling both sides of the Pacific Ocean.

The maker has been dropping hints about what’s in store for both the Tokyo Motor Show and the L.A. Auto Show and the latest revelation pulls the cover on the 2015 Legacy Concept. We should put quotes around “concept,” because what you see is very likely to soon be what you’ll get when the next-generation midsize model rolls into showrooms less than a year from now.

As with the new WRX is will share space with on the Subaru stand in Los Angeles – along with the various products we’ve learned are coming to Tokyo next week – the new 2015 Legacy Concept adopts a more stylish and modern shape than the rather boxy and plain sedan it replaces.

The 2015 Subaru Legacy Concept is more likely "reality" than "concept."

In keeping with general industry trends, the roofline is more coupe-like, while the front gets decidedly more aggressive “hawkeye” headlamps and a revised hexagonal grille. There are more flared wheel arches to provide a wider and more planted appearance, updated headlights completing the new design.

The updated look of the concept could surprise folks used to the low-key appearance, but others will welcome the changes designed to mark the Subaru Legacy line’s 25th anniversary.

It remains to be seen how many of the changes will carry over into production – particularly the show car’s 21-inch sport wheels – though it appears much of what you see is going to be what you’ll get for 2015.

One thing not likely to change is that the production version of the 2015 Subaru Legacy is expected to maintain its all-wheel-drive-only configuration.

Subaru is holding a number of key details for next week but we’re also expecting the 2015 Legacy will expand upon the list of high-tech features currently available in the car, and will boast the maker’s multi-function, camera-enabled EyeSight safety suite.

As mentioned, the 2015 Subaru Legacy Concept will debut alongside the next-generation Subaru WRX in Los Angeles.  We’ll also see a number of new concepts in Tokyo, the maker has revealed, including the sleek – yet awkwardly named – Levorg show car. We may also get a hint of what’s to come as a replacement for the Tribeca, which will end its run this model year.
