Automaker secrets continue to be exposed in the run up to this year’s North American International Auto Show as photos and some details of the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 have been revealed.
The new version is clearly a step up from its predecessor, which was a slightly updated version of the largely unloved and unremarkable Chrysler Sebring. The maker did wonders with the old version with a reskin of the exterior, an upgraded interior, a new name and a fantastic ad campaign featuring Eminem, which debuted during the Super Bowl a few years back.
However, the 2015 version is clearly a significant break from the past. Using the same basic “architecture” as the Dodge Dart – a modified-for-the-U.S. version of a Fiat’s compact car structure in Europe – it is miles ahead of the old 200.
It’s a sleeker, more refined look that evokes an air of sophistication that’s tough to do with a compact car. It also makes clear that Chrysler/Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne is serious when he says he doesn’t want the maker to simply “badge engineer” vehicles for different brands anymore.

The 200 will come standard with a 2.4-liter Tigershark producing 184 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. However, owners can upgrade to a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 pushing out 295 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Both are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Like most compact cars aimed at younger buyers, the 200 features an array of more than 60 safety and security features as well as easy-to-use, state-of-the-art advanced technology to keep drivers connected, but focused on the road in front of them.
It’s expected to go on sale later this year starting at $21,700.
Big leap forward…very smooooooooth. The Malibuttugly ought be worried more than ever.
Let’s hope the pictures do it justice. I agree with you…very smart looking.
