The 2015 Subaru WRX STI keeps the ever-present rear spoiler, but there will be no five-door available.

Every now and then it happens. In fact, it happened just a couple of months ago with the 2015 Ford Mustang: a leak.

Not of fluids, but of photos. In this case, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI, which was supposed to make its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.

However, several photos leaked out ahead of time courtesy of the Mexican website, Terra Autos, so now everyone gets a look at the new iteration ahead of time.

The new WRX STI is expected to get a 2.5-liter Boxer four producing more than 300 horsepower.

There are no hard facts to go with the pictures, but the STI is expected to use a turbocharged, 2.5-liter Boxer four producing at least 300 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque.

Expect a slew of specialty upgrades, including a performance-oriented suspension and upgraded brakes. However, there will be no hatchback available for the 2015 version, like the WRX, the STI will be available as a sedan only.

While the STI with its huge rear spoiler and additional goodies will be a beast, the standard WRX is no shrinking violet.

Debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, it’s powered by a new 268-horsepower 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo Boxer engine, the 2015 WRX debuts the model’s first six-speed manual transmission and a new, optional performance automatic transmission, the Sport Lineartronic CVT with two manual modes: six-speed and eight-speed. Both versions use paddle shifters to get through the gears.

The eight-speed is tied to Subaru’s Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE), which allows the driver to select one of three performance modes: intelligent, sport and sport sharp.

The new six-speed manual transmission provides a wider ratio spread than the previous five-speed and incorporates several performance and durability improvements for this high-performance application, including carbon synchronizers on first and second gears.
