Vandals went cow, er, car tipping San Francisco yesterday. The four Smart cars were put on their front- and rear-ends as well as on their sides, causing significant damage to the vehicles.

Since there are no cows in San Francisco, apparently folks have taken to tipping Smart cars in the city. Four of the tiny cars were tipped the other day in two different parts of the city.

The police say there are no suspects and have no idea why it was done. While it may seem funny, the cars were damaged and the culprits could be doing some time in jail as they will likely be facing felony vandalism charges if caught.

The cars were tipped sometime after midnight on Monday and left sitting on their headlights, sides and bumpers in the Bernal Heights and Portola neighborhoods.

The police have an eyewitness and are looking for multiple people wearing black hooded sweatshirts who were around the area during the time of the incidents.

Tipping Smart cars is not new. In fact, there was a rash of incidents in 2011, which were chronicled on a Facebook parody page.

Weighing in between 1,500 and 1,800 pounds, it’s likely easier to tip a Smart car than a cow, which can tip the scales at nearly 3,000 pounds.

However, there may be a bigger issue at play with the flipping of the cars. Some San Francisco residents are unhappy with the gentrification of some of some of the city’s older neighborhoods, which has caused rents to rise to levels unaffordable by “the working class.”

Smart cars are often associated with those involved in the city’s changing landscape.

Recently, a group of anarchists staged a protest outside home of Digg founder and Google Ventures partner Kevin Rose. Google Ventures is the venture capital arm of Google that has invested millions in dozens of tech startups in the Bay Area.

The group blames the startups for the change in San Francisco’s housing climate.

In addition to passing out flyers calling Rose a “parasite,” they also proposed a way for him to make the situation right.

They suggested a $3 billion donation that would be used to “create autonomous, anti-capitalist, and anti-racist communities throughout the Bay Area and Northern California. In these communities, whether in San Francisco or in the woods, no one will ever have to pay rent and housing will be free. With this ($3 billion) from Google, we will solve the housing crisis in the Bay Area and prove to the world that an anarchist world is not only possible but in fact irrepressible.”
