The 2015 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe gives aficionados something drive until the maker introduces a V-Series line-up next year.

Cadillac is saying “out with the old” in a way that performance drivers might appreciate. The luxury maker is launching a limited-edition version of the CTS-V Coupe for 2015 that it calls the “last chapter” for the current two-door, and a placeholder for the all-new V-Series line-up it is promising to introduce next year.

The CTS Coupe itself is a holdover, a two-door version of the previous-generation luxury sedan that Cadillac recently updated. The maker has been providing mixed signals about whether it actually will have a new version of the CTS Coupe in the future. For now, it is focusing the spotlight on the smaller 2015 ATS Coupe it introduced at this year’s Detroit Auto Show.

But the CTS Coupe has plenty of fans who appreciate its aggressively angular design, arguably the most aggressive to emerge from the Cadillac styling studios since the maker adopted its distinctive Art & Science design language a decade ago.

Fans of the Cadillac CTS coupe will get a new version of the two-door for 2015.

Cadillac plans to produce just 500 copies of the 2015 CTS V-Coupe during the second half of this year. It will feature a 556-horsepower supercharged V-8 shared with the last-generation CTS-V sedan.

“The V-Series continues to elevate Cadillac, providing an exclusive family of high-performance luxury models that attract a new audience of elite and passionate buyers,” said Uwe Ellinghaus, Cadillac’s chief global marketing officer.

The special-edition Coupe also will get Cadillac’s distinctive Magnetic Ride Control suspension, which can respond to changes in driver input or road conditions in the time it takes to travel mere inches at 60 mph.

All 500 of the 2015 Cadillac CTS-V Coupes will be finished with an ebony interior featuring red contrast stitching, Recaro performance seats, metal pedals, Midnight Sapele wood trim, a microfiber suede-wrapped steering wheel, and other distinctive trim details. A sunroof will be one of the few options.

“The special edition is a stepping stone to the next-generation V-Series, which will move to the next level with more dynamic design and technical sophistication,” Ellinghaus hints.

The CTS-V Coupe combines luxury interior appointments with the power that appeals to many Cadillac buyers.

Cadillac has used the V-Series as a way to challenge the current German luxury car leaders, taking on such tough contenders as the Mercedes-Benz AMG and BMW M models.

Until now, Cadillac has relied on supercharged, big-block V-8s to power its V-Series. It remains to be seen precisely what route it will take going forward, though insiders suggest they have been looking at a variety of more modern alternatives.

The next CTS-V is almost certain to stick with a V-8, with a version of the latest Corvette powertrain anticipated to power the sedan. However, a smaller six-cylinder package could become the V-Series motivator in the upcoming ATS-V line.
