The 2011 Hyundai Sonata is subject to a safety recall.

Add another million to the running tally of vehicles in a record-setting 2014 as Hyundai and Nissan announced actions totaling 1.1 million cars today: Hyundai recalling 889,000 vehicles and Nissan more than 226,000.

Hyundai is recalling 883,000 Sonata sedans from 2011-2014 due to a faulty shift cable. The cable may disconnect allowing the car to roll away after parking or preventing it from being shifted out of park.

The maker received nearly 1,200 warranty claims due to the problem. Dealers will inspect the cable and repair the connection between he shift cable and shift lever at no cost to the owner. It also recalled nearly 5,700 2015 Sonatas for brake problems, asking owners to park the vehicles. It was the second time this year the 2015 model has been recalled.

Nissan is recalling certain model year 2002-2003 Nissan Maximas, Pathfinders and Infiniti I35s and QX4s, as well as 2002-2004 Nissan Sentras and 2003 Infiniti FXs due to a defect in the passenger side front airbag.

“This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts,” the company said in a release. “A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.”

Dealers will inspect the airbag and replace the inflator if it is defective. The recall will begin Aug. 11, Nissan said.
