Chevrolet's Colorado Sport concept was unveiled today at the State Fair of Texas, and heads to SEMA in early November.

General Motors is looking to attract a new type of truck buyer with its new midsize offerings and part of their appeal is their utility. The Detroit-based maker showed off one version of the truck that might appeal to younger buyers.

With the State Fair of Texas as the backdrop, GM introduced the Chevrolet Colorado Sport concept. Loaded with two mountain bikes on a specially designed rack in the bed of the truck, the “lifestyle-oriented” midsize truck is aimed at buyers spending a lot of time outside.

“It’s not just mountain bikes, but just about any passion you can name, from kayaking, fishing, dirt bikes and more,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “It’s a truck for those who need the versatility of a pickup to support their work and lifestyle interests, but don’t need a full-size truck to do it.”

Seeking to appeal to younger buyers with active lifestyles, the Sport concept comes outfitted with GM’s GearOn Accessory System. Completely adjustable, the system actually allows owners to stow larger items such as bikes and kayaks above the bed. This provides storage under those items for other needed accessories, such as tents, helmets or coolers.

  • Cargo divider
  • Wheel lip moldings

Not only can owners trick out their trucks to meet their needs, they have a several options prior to taking delivery. The 2015 Colorado is available in extended- or crew-cab models, with a choice of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder putting out 200 hp or a 3.6-liter V-6 engine developing 305 hp. The Colorado’s V-6 has the segment’s highest trailer rating at 7,000 pounds.

The Colorado’s interior is quiet and features all of the gizmos active owners are going to want. The instrument panels are modern and well laid out, with a nice video display that can be configured with the latest voice-activated navigation system – and with a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. The optional display is an eight-inch touchscreen that makes it easy to operate the Chevy MyLink infotainment system or the GMC alternative.

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado sports a wheelbase of 128.3 inches in Extended and Crew Cab configurations, 140.5 inches with the longer cargo bed. Its total length runs from 212.7 to 224.9 inches from nose to tailgate, depending on model. It runs about 70 inches in height, and all configurations are 74.3 inches in width. That said, the longest Colorado is still a half-foot shorter than the smallest Silverado.
