BMW added a convertible to its 2-Series line-up. It replaces the 1-Series, which was extremely popular.
BMW grew its 2-Series family by one at the Paris Motor Show with the introduction of the 2-Series convertible. The droptop joins the coupe and Active Tourer in the group.
The new ragtop has big shoes to fill: its 1-Series predecessor was arguably the most successful car in the segment with more than 130,000 units sold worldwide.
Available with four engine options our engines, the range consists of the 220i with a 184bhp gas engine, a 228i with 245bhp, a new 220d diesel engine with 190bhp and, an M235i Convertible with 326bhp. These offerings are mated to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 220i and 220d models are available in Sport, Luxury and M Sport trims, while the 228i is offered only as the M Sport.
The convertible, which has a top that can be opened or closed at speeds up to 30 mph, is slightly longer and slightly wider than the droptop it replaces. This only adds to the car’s low-slung appearance.
The new convertible also has more available cargo space than the 1-Series version. The new 2 Series Convertible can carry two snowboards or two golf bags. And if you’re carting stuff around, you’ll want a driver-centric dash display and the Bavarians made that happen.

BMW’s iDrive controller connected to a standard 6.5-inch central display. A new addition to the 2 Series and, indeed, for any BMW, is a new navigation system which updates navigation data wirelessly and for free through the built-in SIM card.

Every 2 Series Convertible comes with Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming and USB interface. Owners also get BMW Emergency Call and TeleServices as standard.

Alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, Drive Performance Control, keyless go, sports seats and a multifunction steering wheel all come as standard, too.
The 2015 BMW 2 Series Convertible arrives in the U.S. early next year. The price? $38,850 for the 228i, $40,650 for the 228i xDrive, $48,650 for the M235i, including $950 destination and handling.
