Dodge is restarting Viper production next month with the 200 preorders for the 2015 model.

Viper fans take heart! Chrysler Group announced plans to begin production of the company’s halo sports beast next month with full production coming mid-November.

The automaker stopped production of the 2014 Dodge Viper SRT due to sluggish sales. However, after a $15,000 price cut that reduced the entry point to just under $85,000, sales took off. Not only did the maker lower the price, they allowed all Dodge dealers to sell the car.

As a result, in September dealers sold more than two times as many as they did during the year-ago period: 108 compared with 45. It was also the first time the maker reached (and surpassed) the century mark in one month. Reports suggest that October results will be similarly impressive.

When the Conner Avenue plant in Detroit begins production again, it will only be building the base model Viper SRT and the new Viper GT. The company is going to hold off on production the more expensive TA and GTS models until a later date. Dodge already has 200 preorders for the 2015 Viper.

The Viper has never been a big seller, but it’s going to have some competition for the 2015 model. With a 8.4-liter V10 pumping out 640 horsepower and a zero-to-60 time of just under 3.0 seconds, it’s king of the track among American muscle cars  However, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is nearly $10,000 less at just under $75k and does the zero-to-60 dash in 2.95 seconds.

The company will get a chance to pump the Viper with a concept version at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Viper ACR, which brings back another badge long associated with the Dodge two-seater. The concept features air exhausters over the front wheels that help reduce turbulence and boost downforce. There’s a massive front splitter, a large rear wing, and carbon-ceramic six-piston brakes.

The Viper ACR concept also features a distinctive, offset black and red hood stripe, and a few luxury touches, including Alcantar trim and door panels with laser-etched checkered flags.

Originally a concept at the 1989 North American International Auto Show, the Viper made its debut in 1992, but was discontinued in 2010. After a short hiatus, it came back as part of the Street Racing Technology (SRT) umbrella of vehicles in 2012.
