Opel's newest entry in the "hot hatch" segment, the Adam S combines nimble handling with ample power.

Just hours after GM CEO Mary Barra told the world the maker expect to be profitable in Europe in 2016, Opel is showing off four vehicles that are expected to get it into the black, starting with the new Adam S.

The Adam S is Opel’s entry into the “hot hatch” segment. Sporting a 150 hp, 1.4-liter Turbo Ecotec engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the “S” does zero to 100 km (62.5 mph) in 8.5 seconds.

Not Corvette fast, but when combined a specially tuned chassis for nimble handling and plenty of low-end torque, getting through bustling city streets will be a breeze. Add in a race-inspired exterior and an infotainment system that is fully compatible with latest smartphones using both Android and Apple iOS, enabling Adam drivers to be fully connected with safe and easy-to-use technology, you get a package with a lot of appeal.

Opel will start taking orders in November and it will be at dealers from the beginning of 2015.

Opel's new Corsa is laden with advanced safety technology as well as a superior infotainment system.

The Germany-based maker is also rolling out its new Corsa with a new interior aimed at buyers looking for value as well as advanced technology. The new Corsa features IntelliLink infotainment technology and ultra-modern driver assistance systems, including the second-generation Opel Eye front camera, with Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Following Distance Indication and Forward Collision Warning systems.

The car’s 1.0-liter Ecotec engine comes in to variations putting out either 90 hp or 115 hp. Both pump out 170 Nm of torque from just 1,800 rpm.

“The four world premieres represent the consistent continuation of our model and powertrain offensive,” said Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, Opel Group CEO. “The new Corsa and Adam S are attractive additions to our portfolio and our new high-tech engines are at the forefront of current diesel technology.”

The new Opel Insignia is now powered by a more powerful diesel engine putting out 170 hp.

The new Mokka 1.6 CDTI turbo diesel has been nicknamed the “whisper diesel,” according to Opel. The new four-cylinder replaces the current 1.7-liter diesel in the Mokka line-up. It also put out more horses – 136 hp, up 6 hp – than the outgoing version while being extremely economical.

Opel’s looking to punch up two models – the Insignia and Zafira Tourer – by putting its new 2.0-liter turbo diesel into both vehicles. The Insignia’s version packing 170 hp compared with 163 hp currently available. In the Zafira Tourer, it develops 165 hp. The Euro 6 compliant engine delivers almost 4% more horsepower and 14% more torque while reducing fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
