As Mercedes continues to revamp what it calls the vehicles in its line-up, there are still three letters that always garner attention: AMG.

The German automaker is amping up the power on the new 2016 GLE 450 4Matic Coupe by offering it in an AMG Sport variant. The AMG Sport version of the GLE 450 Coupe sports a 3.0-liter V6 engine putting out 362 horsepower and 384 ft-lb of torque managed by a nine-speed transmission.

“The GLE 450 AMG Coupe is our first sports model, and further highly emotional and performance-oriented models will follow in the near future,” said Tobias Moers, chairman of Mercedes-AMG, in a statement.

However, Mercedes knows that while some may be satisfied with that, there is always a market for, well, more, and it seems more than happy to oblige by debuting the GLE63 S Coupe, which is powered by an AMG 5.5-liter V8 biturbo laying down 577 hp and 561 ft-lb of torque, which pushes the GLE63 from zero to 60 in 4.2 seconds.

“We see great potential in this vehicle segment, which is new to Mercedes-AMG. The GLE63 Coupe is the logical progression of our ambitious growth strategy – after all, in 1999 with the first high-performance SUV ML55 AMG, we established a completely new segment,” Moers added.

“The new GLE63 Coupe will inspire SUV fans focused on dynamics while at the same time representing a new interpretation of driving performance.”

Both new AMG-modified vehicles boast the usual boost in horsepower and improved overall driving dynamics. However, Mercedes didn’t stop with just making these vehicles go faster, turn sharper and stop sooner.

The driver can alter the response of the engine, the shift strategy of the transmission, ESP thresholds, power assistance for the steering or characteristics of the dampers: The system networks all the control systems, generating different sets of parameters for distinct driving experiences, according to Mercedes.
