Hyundai has two for the Windy City.
The quirky Hyundai Veloster coupe is getting some significant upgrades for the 2016 model-year, the Korean carmaker revealed during a Chicago Auto Show news conference. That includes design and connectivity enhancements, as well as a new Veloster Rally Edition.
Meanwhile, Hyundai also used the Windy City as a backdrop to announced it is updating the 2016 Elantra GT, the compact model getting a “refreshed look,” along with the addition of some new tech features.
When it made its original debut, one of the big complaints about the Veloster was its lack of performance. The maker attempted to address that problem with the launch of the Turbo R-Spec. The limited-edition Veloster Rally Edition attempts to build on that enthusiast model’s credentials.
The Rally gets a more sporty suspension, lightweight 18-inch wheels, carbon-fiber-look aero accents and more. Set to reach showrooms in May, Hyundai says it will build only 1,200 Veloster Rally Edition models – all in Matte Blue.
The Veloster Turbo model, meanwhile, will get a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for 2016, along with new machine-finished wheels, sportier seats, and other sporty touches. The Turbo edition features a Torque Vectoring Control system that helps direct power to the outer wheels to help improve handling in corners.
All 2016 Hyundai Veloster models will receive some design tweaks, including a new hood, a dark gray grille surround, wider 18-inch wheels and tires, and new electronics, including upgraded navigation, HD Radio, and the Apple Siri system.
The entire Veloster line-up now features enhanced powertrain features, Hyundai noted, including direct injection, starting with the base Gamma 1.6-liter inline-four.
The 2016 Veloster will share the Chicago stage with the updated Hyundai Elantra. Since undergoing a dramatic redesign a few years ago, the compact sedan has gained significant momentum in an extremely competitive segment and Hyundai is aiming to build on that this coming year.

The mid-cycle changes are, for the most part modest, with an emphasis on the Elantra GT model. From an appearance standpoint, the most noticeable revision is a new front fascia, with a redesigned grill featuring horizontal chrome and argent slats. There are new 17-inch wheels, as well.

Inside, buyers now can order ventilated front seats, which Hyundai claims to be a segment first. There’s also an updated navigation system and new HD Radio and Apple Siri, as well as the next generation of the Hyundai Blue Link connectivity system.

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT will continue to use the 2.0-liter Nu direct injection I-4 producting 173 horsepower and 154 pound-feet of torque.
Reaching showrooms in March, Hyundai says the 2016 Elatra GT will go for $18,825, including destination charges.
