The 2016 Range Rover Sport HST.

The fast-growing Land Rover family will be getting bigger yet with the addition of the new Range Rover Sport HST, a limited-edition model for 2016.

Set to make its debut at the New York International Auto Show next week, the new model gets a 40 horsepower bump thanks to a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6. The HST is part of an array of updates announced for the 2016 Range Rover Sport line, including a new diesel engine option.

“Sitting between the existing 340hp Range Rover Sport 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 and the 550-hp supercharged variant, (the HST) delivers enhanced V-6 performance to go with the renowned comfort and refinement of the Range Rover Sport,” said David Mitchell, the vehicle program director.

The limited-edition HST adopts a black exterior design theme, with darkened front and rear lamps, a Santorini Black contrast roof and a new spoiler.

The hood, front fender vents, grille and fog lamp bezels are all finished in a glossy black. Meanwhile, the HST gets sculpted, lower door panels and additional vent detailing on the bumpers.

It rides on 21-inch alloy wheels with a unique dark satin gray finish that barely conceal upgraded brakes – distinguished by their red calipers.

The supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 turns out 380 horsepower, 40 more than the standard-edition Range Rover Sport V-6 model. The HST engine is paired with a single-speed transfer case with a Torsen Center differential.

The new model ‘s more sporty nature is reflected in the revised Terrain Response system set-up which includes a Dynamic Mode for more aggressive on-road driving.  It delivers “more controlled electronic damping and a more responsive throttle pedal, while enhancing gearshifts and steering response to match the change in vehicle character,” Land Rover suggests.

The interior is trimmed in Oxford Leather, with a contrasting dash, ebony door trim and center console.

Pricing for the 2016 Range Rover Sport HST Limited Edition will be announced later this year.

Among other additions for 2016, the Range Rover Sport will be offered in North America for the first time with a 3.0-liter Td6 turbocharged V-6 diesel engine. The 254-hp package delivers 440 pound-feet of torque and squeezes out 22 mpg in the EPA City rating, 28 mpg Highway and 25 mpg Combined.
