The new Mercedes C-Class coupe combines good looks, comfort and performance.
Mercedes continues its run of revitalization with the introduction of the new C-Class coupe aimed at drawing younger buyers with the lure of good looks and performance at a price point that may move some into the luxury segment a little sooner than planned.
There are some similarities between the coupe and the sedan, the German maker’s design clearly leaves no doubt that the coupe is a different animal than its four-door counterpart. It’s lower to the ground to give it a more athletic look and feel.
The C-pillar extends further back before it dramatically slopes down into the rear of the car to accentuate the look that almost akin to prowling. Now while the new look outside screams sports car, the interior gravitates toward the best offerings of the sedan, Mercedes notes.
“Although it exudes athletic and youthful charm, it has grown in maturity. Driver and passengers enjoy an ambience that leans toward the interior of the C-Class Saloon yet raises it to a new, sporty level,” the company said.
Mercedes continues to revitalize its lineup with the new entry-level coupe.
However, the coupe is longer and wider than its sedan counterpart allowing for more interior head, shoulder and leg room for passengers in the front and rear seats.
Comfort is important, and that’s not just measured in terms of roominess. Mercedes offers its AIRMATIC air suspension on the front and rear axle. Its electronically controlled, continuously adjustable damping on the front and rear axle ensures outstanding comfort and performance.

The system also allows the driver to select from five options best suited to his or her driving style: ECO, Comfort, Sport, Sport + and Individual. Selecting “Individual” allows the driver to customize the vehicle settings. AIRMATIC also features all-round self-levelling for excellent ride comfort even with the vehicle loaded.
Not only can the driver select the handling, but for the 2017 model, buyers can select from two diesel and four gas engine options, all of which feature ECO start/stop function provide for sporty performance and driving pleasure. All are compliant with the Euro 6 emissions standard. Compared with the predecessor they consume up to 20% less fuel.
The power spectrum ranges from the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine in the C 180 with 156 horsepower to the 2.0-liter C 200 at 184 hp and C 250 211 hp models and the C 300, likewise with a displacement of 2.0-liter 245 hp powerlants.

The two diesel models are equipped with an enhanced four-cylinder unit developing 170 hp or 204 hp and feature ecofriendly SCR technology (Selective Catalytic Reduction) for exhaust gas aftertreatment.
Power is sent to the road via either a six-speed manual transmission, the 7G-TRONIC PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission or the new nine-speed 9G-TRONIC.
All of these powerplant options also come with a slew of safety and convenience options, including the Collision Prevention Assist Plus system can autonomously begin braking at speeds up to 124 mph if it detects a slower vehicle ahead. And it can brake to avoid a stopped vehicle at speeds up to 31 mph. There’s also a new Attention Assist feature that can alert a driver who has grown drowsy or inattentive.

One of the more intriguing high-tech features links the climate control and navigation systems. It automatically closes the air recirculation flap when you enter a tunnel and opens it back up when you emerge into the fresh air. The new C-class coupe is due in showrooms in December.
