The Jaguar F-Type gets a 4-cylinder engine for 2018, putting out 296 horsepower.
When it comes to high-priced vehicles, it’s all about options. Jaguar is now taking that to the extreme with its 2018 F-Type line-up offering a portfolio that provides choices ranging from Jaguar’s first 4-cylinder engine to a 575 horsepower tricked-out model.
In all, the maker is offering 24 derivatives that include the 296 hp Ingenium 4-cylnder entry-level model to the 200 mph all-wheel drive 575-hp V8-powered F-Type SVR with prices ranging from just under $60k to $125k when it hits the market later this year.
“Introducing our advanced four-cylinder engine to the F-Type has created a vehicle with its own distinct character,” said Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line director, Jaguar F-Type. “Performance from an engine of this size is remarkable and is balanced with improved fuel efficiency and affordability, making the F-TYPE experience more accessible than ever before.”
For some the ideal of a “four-banger” in a Jag may be borderline offensive, but this isn’t just any four. Pushing nearly 300 hp, it offers substantive performance, including a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.
In addition to those two model, the F-Type family includes the 400 Sport and the R-Dynamic. The 400 Sport, unsurprisingly, features a 3.0-liter V6 400 hp engine and an uprated chassis that includes standard 380mm front and 376mm rear brakes, Configurable Dynamics and 20-inch wheels with a unique Satin Dark Grey finish.
The R-Dynamic is available with the 380hp version of the supercharged V6, and is distinguished by standard 20-inch Dark Grey Diamond Turned alloy wheel designs and by Gloss Black front air intake bezels. The distinctive Gloss Black finish is also applied to the front splitter, hood vents, rear valance and side sills.
The new F-Type comes with four different engine options, including a 296 hp four cylinder, for 2018.

That differentiation continues beyond the variety of powertrain offerings. The F-Type provides a clearer visual range of differentiation courtesy of four distinct model-specific front bumpers. Full LED headlights boost visual appeal further and help with visibility ahead of the vehicle.
“Great sports car design is about proportion and purity,” said Ian Callum, director of Design, Jaguar. “The most challenging element of the process for designers is to focus on and maintain an exciting silhouette that promises performance.
“For the 2018 model year F-Type, we looked at how we could fine-tune key details to deliver even more clarity of purpose in the overall design – for the driver, the passenger and onlookers.”
While speed and handling is important, every vehicle in this price segment is required to provide a world-class infotainment system and Jag lives up to that promise with its InControl Touch Pro infotainment system. The 8-inch touchscreen can be customized to provide shortcuts to specific features and functions; additional customized home screens can also be added, Jaguar notes.

“Its super-fast responses, intuitive tablet-style pinch-to-zoom and swipe operation, intelligent navigation functions such as Share ETA and online services such as real-time traffic and live weather reports make every journey more rewarding and put a world of information at the driver’s fingertips,” the company notes.
The 2018 F-Type is a technological marvel led in large measure by the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system.
Regardless of the model, each F-Type is designed to provide an exhilarating experience and now Jaguar is offering owners a way to retain those memories through that InContol system. Enthusiasts will be able to capture and share their driving experiences using the new ReRun app developed in collaboration with GoPro.
All-new for Jaguar, ReRun combines real-time video from the driver’s GoPro camera and overlays key vehicle performance data including speed, throttle position, gear selection, braking force and g force. The video – including unique “highlights” sections – can be downloaded to the driver’s smartphone and shared on social media.
Going fast and keeping track of it is amazing, but it’s important to have the latest in safety technology. Of course, the F-Type line-up offers the standard technology for this segment, including Emergency Braking system, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist systems, Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Speed Limiter.

It also offers a newer technology named Driver Condition Monitor system. It is designed to recognize patterns typical of driving when tired, including periods of little or no steering activity followed by sudden or excessive inputs, and can show a multi-stage warning in the instrument cluster and give audible warnings to prompt the driver to take a break.
