Chevrolet and Hot Wheels have teamed up to come with two new Camaros in time for the SEMA show.

The annual weeklong SEMA show, one of the high points of car culture in the U.S., rolls into Las Vegas this week and Chevrolet is doubling its fun this year by offering a unique version of the Camaro COPO Camaro on “Hot Wheels” toy cars long popular with the sandbox set.

The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition, will celebrate 50 years of partnership, performance innovation and design, officials from General Motors said, and the full-scale version will be available through Chevy dealers in the first quarter of 2018.

“The Chevrolet Performance design studio is full of designers who were inspired by Hot Wheels,” said Tom Peters, director of Exterior Design for Chevrolet Performance Cars. “The Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition captures that passion, turning childhood fantasy into reality.”

The commemorative package pays homage to iconic Hot Wheels features including a special Crush exterior color and stripes that replicate the toys’ famous orange tracks. The $4,995 package, available on Camaro 2LT and 2SS coupe and convertible models, goes on sale in the first quarter of 2018.

The special edition Camaro will come with Satin Graphite stripes with Silver Ice Metallic accents, Satin Graphite ground effects, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels (with summer-only tires on the SS) in Satin Graphite with milled faces and unique center caps, 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels fender badges, unique grille with Galvano chrome inserts, orange brake calipers, dark taillamps, Black taillamp panel with the Hot Wheels emblem and Black Chevrolet bowtie emblems.

On the inside it will feature a Jet Black leather-appointed interior with exclusive orange inserts and orange accent stitching, orange safety belts, embossed front-seat headrests, 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels badge on the steering wheel and Illuminated doorsill plates with 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels badges as well as premium carpeted floor mats with orange stitching and “ghost” stripes.

Chevrolet also has taken the wraps 2018 COPO Camaro, which is built for racing.

The COPO Camaro also features an exclusive Supercrush exterior color. Customers will be able to order the 2018 COPO Camaro in the same Crush exterior color and appearance package as the production Hot Wheels Edition. An all-new, high-revving 302 Gen V Small Block is also available.

“The introduction of a new COPO Camaro is always exciting and the new engine and Hot Wheels package expand choices for customers,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.

“Chevrolet has supported Camaro drag racers for more than 50 years and the historic COPO Camaro program continues to offer them more ways to win,” he noted.

Anyone interested in purchasing one of the 69 2018 COPO Camaro race cars can register at the Chevrolet performance web site. An independent third party will randomly select purchasers from the pool of interested customers.

The new 302 racing engine is based on the LT1 engine offered in the 2018 Camaro SS, but built for drag racing with unique components. Its displacement derives from a shorter-stroke crankshaft than the production engine that enables exceptional high-rpm capability, Campbell said.

“In the 1960s Hot Wheels and Camaro challenged vehicle design by elevating the speed, power and performance of both die-cast and pony cars alike. For 50 years, both brands have developed high-performance cars that embody the challenger spirit.” said Chris Down, senior vice president and Global Brand GM, Hot Wheels.
