NASCAR analyst and former Top Gear USA host Rutledge Wood designed a "Blurple" Camry for entry into SEMA's "Battle of the Builders."

Toyota rumbled into the SEMA show ready to do just that with two entries for the show’s famed, “Battle of the Builders.”

The Japanese automaker is entering a 2018 Camry and a Toyota C-HR into the competition featuring the efforts of Real Time Automotive and DG-Spec.

“The Camry and C-HR are two all-new vehicles that we’ve introduced this past year, and we wanted to see just how far we could take them” said Steve Curtis, vice president of Media and Engagement Marketing for Toyota Motor North America.

“Battle of the Builders is a great platform on which to do it, and it’s very much in the spirit of SEMA.”

Real Time Automotive and its creative mastermind Rick Leos paired up with NASCAR racing analyst and former host of Top Gear USA Rutledge Wood to build a futuristic take on the all-new 2018 Camry, featuring one-off body panels created using 3D printing technology.

The interior of Wood's Camry has been dressed up in supple “baseball glove” leather on the seats, door panels and steering wheel.

The Camry’s hood, front and rear bumpers, rear diffuser, rocker panels and headlight buckets were fabricated using 3D-printing technology and the use of composite materials, producing a unique custom look.

It also features a mean-looking, wide body stance and a Megan Racing custom suspension that lowers it over staggered 20-inch forged Rotiform wheels.

A custom MagnaFlow exhaust was installed, giving the Camry’s V6 a mean, throaty voice at full throttle but remaining incredibly quiet at idle. To complement the sedan’s custom-printed panels and performance-oriented stance, the Camry’s body has been draped in a never-before-seen color: Blurple, which is is metallic mix of pearlescent blue and purple.

The interior has been dressed up in supple “baseball glove” leather on the seats, door panels and steering wheel. Custom floor mats were added featuring Rutledge Wood’s likeness stitched into them.

Dan Gardner of DG-Spec created the C-HR R-Tuned – the world’s quickest CUV.

In the mean time, Dan Gardner, head of DG-Spec, added a full turbocharged engine and transmission swap to the C-HR, plus a custom racing suspension and aero package, to create the C-HR R-Tuned – the world’s quickest CUV.

The two vehicles are joined at Toyota’s SEMA booth by a variety of other vehicles, including:

  • Camry project vehicles by NASCAR Cup racers Martin Truex, Jr.; Kyle Busch; Denny Hamlin and Daniel Suarez

  • A custom 2018 C-HR CUV

  • NASCAR Camry Pace Car

  • Special display honoring the Camry’s 8 Generations across 35 years

  • 2018 Camry and C-HR production vehicles

Featuring the world’s greatest automotive customizers, SEMA Battle of the Builders is considered the ultimate builder competition, designed to recognize and celebrate proven vehicle builders in all market segments.
