The the new year, Mini gave its original two-door and four-door model as well as the convertible a freshening.

Mini’s been tweaking much of its line-up for the past two years adding more space, new technology or a mix of both, but it’s finally gotten to the original two- and four-door hardtop and convertible with a few new updates.

Perhaps the most noticeable update will be the new LED tail lamps with the Union Jack design, which were created as a supplement to the new LED headlights. The optional lighting provides brighter lighting, improving safety and enhancing performance.

Not far behind is an updated Mini logo, which appears on the bonnet, tailgate, steering wheel, central instrument display, remote control and optional driver’s side puddle lighting all models. It is a re-interpretation of the existing logo and now features a two-dimensional “flat design.”

The original also gets three new paint color options: Emerald Grey metallic, Starlight Blue metallic, and Solaris Orange metallic.

The new Mini gets new 17-inch light allow wheels as well as three new paint color options.

“What is more, the list of optional equipment items features an additional means of customizing the exterior design,” the company noted. “With the option Piano Black Exterior, the surrounds of the headlights, rear lights and radiator grille are finished in high-gloss black instead of chrome.”

Further enhancing the updated look are new 17-inch light alloy wheels in the design styles Roulette Spoke two-tone and Propeller Spoke two-tone wheels can be ordered for all three Minis.

The car’s core buyers are tech savvy and the brand caters to that with a new 6.5-inch display standard, and features an updated and optimized user interface, Bluetooth mobile phone integration, and support for Bluetooth audio streaming, although a new 8.8-inch touchscreen navigation system with new user interface and greatly expanded features is an option.

Those tech preferences also include wireless charging using a storage compartment integrated in the center armrest, which also adds a second USB port in the front section of the center console.

With the new Mini Connected functions, a diverse range of services and function become available including: Advanced Real Time Traffic Information with 4G LTE connectivity, support for Apple CarPlay, Connected Services, and intelligent emergency call.

Mini offers brighter LED front headlamps and rear tail lights on the new model.

Once inside, the car’s wide selection of seating fabrics gets an addition for 2018: supple Malt Brown Chesterfield Leather upholstery. In addition, the new option Mini Yours Interior Style Piano Black with illumination includes a backlit decorative panel on the passenger side of the dashboard, likewise finished in Piano Black as well as bearing a stylized Union Jack motif.

The color of the backlighting matches the ambient lighting selected by the driver. This option also adds high-gloss Piano Black surfaces in the area of the doors and center console.

All of these options are designed to allow even more personalization of the highly recognizable cars. However, the brand has taken it even further.  a way to make your vehicle, well, yours. The Mini Yours Customization program that allows owners to special order parts of their cars with designs, including names, created by the owner.

Customers can design personalized inlays for the side scuttles, trims for the passenger side in the interior, LED door sills and LED door projectors, or welcome mats.

The optional rear LED tail lamps reveal the Union Jack when they are illuminated.

For those looking to take the personalization of their Mini to the next level can select and design the upgrade parts at the new Online Customizer specially developed for the new options. From start to finish, it takes just a couple of weeks, the company says.

The parts are created using 3D printers and laser lettering. They can be installed by the dealer or the car owner and can be swapped out whenever the mood strikes or if the car gets sold.

Buyers can go to the company’s online portal and examine a variety of options and parts for customization. There different scripts and fonts as well as colors and even stock designs aimed at making the process simpler.
