The 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition 1 will officially mark the four-door GT's debut.
When you’re set to launch a special new model like the four-version of the Mercedes-AMG GT, perhaps you should expect a special edition. And that’s precisely what the German automaker has in mind.
Just a few months after we got our first good look at the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, Mercedes has pulled the wraps off a limited-edition launch model that will herald the sports car’s entry into its line-up. But expect to pay dearly, as you’ll only find it available on the top trim version of the GT 4-Door.
Considering that package already makes an impressive 630 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque out of its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8, it’s also no surprise that the 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition 1 is largely focused on cosmetic enhancements.

The Edition 1 Aero Package manages to reduce drag while also increasing downforce.
The Edition 1 package comes exclusively in design Graphite Grey Magno paint, with offset matte gray stripes on top and on each side. The paint scheme is complemented by 21-inch forged cross-spoke AMG wheels with black accents.
There’s also the AMG Aerodynamics Package which includes a larger front splitter and flics intefrated into the front bumper, as well as an optimized diffuser and a rear spoiler which can have its angle mechanically adjusted. Influenced by the AMG racing program, it allows the driver to balance downforce and driving characteristics depending upon road conditions and driver preference.
The Aero kit helps lower drag even while increasing downforce, an unusual combination. Meanwhile, that large front splitter “reinforces the effect of the Airpanel active air management system,” Mercedes notes, adding that, “if the adjustable louvers are closed, the lift at the front axle is further reduced.

The interior picks up on the black and gray color scheme while adding contrasting yellow.
Inside, the AMG GT 63 S Edition 1 gets some attractive tweaks. That includes standard AMG-style sport seats, with the entire cabin picking up on the gray and black color scheme – though there’s also some striking yellow stitching and yellow seatbelts. Add carbon fiber trim and distinctive ambient lighting, as well as an AMG Performance steering wheel in Dinamica microfiber with that yellow stitching.
While the Edition 1 shares it V-8 with the standard-issue Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S, there’s nothing to apologize for. It will still make it to 60 in just 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 195 mph.
The limited-edition package will make its official debut at the ADAC Zurich 24-hour race at the legendary Nurburgring this coming weekend. But even if you’ve got deep enough pockets you’ll have to wait until early 2019 to take delivery of the Edition 1 and the AMG GT 63 and 63 S models. The “base” GT 53, meanwhile, won’t reach U.S. showrooms until mid-2019.
