Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company is building its own car carriers because there is an extreme shortage right now.
Tesla is simply swapping rings of hell it seems these days. After characterizing the building of the Model 3 “production hell,” CEO Elon Musk now faces a new dilemma: Delivering the Model 3.
However, he’s got a two-pronged attack to resolve that problem.
First, after finding no car carriers available to deliver the new “entry-level” model, Musk approved plans to build car carriers to transport new Model 3 sedans to Tesla locations.
Musk tweeted the news Monday replying to a customer, who placed order for a Model 3 All Wheel Drive in June but hasn’t gotten his car yet.

Dozens of Tesla Model 3 sedans are reportedly being held in this Union Pacific freight depot in Salt Lake City.
“Started building our own car carriers this weekend to alleviate load,” Musk wrote.Additionally, the company implemented a program that permits “hand delivery” of the Model 3 to the offices or homes of new owners called Tesla Direct.
Tesla Direct isn’t limited to customers near the automaker’s Fremont, California factory. Customers in Los Angeles are receiving emails offering to deliver cars directly to their homes and offices for free. The service is advertised as “first come, first serve basis.”

Emails alerting customers to the new service suggest it will end this weekend, however, it will actually run through next week, according to Autoblog. For some stores, the move is more than excellent customer service. Some stores have more Model 3s on their lot than they can accommodate as the cars wait for their new owners to arrive.
Model 3 sales received a boost due to a couple of recent actions by Tesla. First, the company opened up sales to anyone. No longer did you have to wait for your reservation number to be “called” in order to buy one of the new sedans

However, there was a catch. Only buyers of the high-priced Model 3, the Model 3 Performance, were allowed to skip to the front of the line. Additionally, Tesla temporarily brought back its free lifetime Supercharging deal for referred purchases of Model 3 Performance, as well as Model S and Model X vehicles in inventory bought before the end of September.
