The new Bollinger B2 pickup truck is expected to hit U.S. roadways in 2020.

Plenty have talked about it – Elon Musk most prominently – but only one company seems close to producing a battery-electric truck and that’s Bollinger Motors.

The now-Michigan-based EV maker debuted its B1 SUV less than a year ago with a promise of a pickup truck in the near future. Well, as one prominent politician likes to claim: promises made, promises kept. Only this time, it appears to be true.

“The new B2 incorporates everything that we’ve learned in making the B1, and takes it in an exciting new direction. It’s always been the plan to have both the B1 and B2 start off our line-up,” said Robert Bollinger, founder and CEO, Autoblog reported.

“Now that we have so much incredible data from testing our B1 prototype, we can put all of that engineering knowledge into our final four-door B1 and B2 vehicles. It’s the pickup I always wanted and something crazy better than what’s available on the market today.”

The B2's bed can handle full-sized 4-foot by 8-foot sheets of plywood and it tow 7,500 pounds.

The new B2 pickup unsurprisingly borrows heavily from the B1. Both rely on dual motors, all-wheel drive, hydropneumatic suspension, in-wheel portal gear hubs, 120 kWh battery pack, large front trunk space, and patented pass-through door for transporting long items, according to Bollinger officials.

The new truck isn’t set to arrive until 2020 so there is time for another company to sneak in with a production-ready truck but there are no commitments yet. In the meantime, Bollinger’s B2 is a serious truck with serious power.

The dual motors put out 520 horsepower and 514 lb-ft of torque. The same system in the B1 SUV puts out just 360 hp. It is expected to have range of more than 200 miles. For comparison, the B1 offers a 120 kWh, producing 200 miles in range.

The four-door pickup gets dual electric motors putting out 520 horsepower and 514 foot-pounds of torque.

Initially, the B1 had a 0-60 time of just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 127 miles per hour and weighed 3,900 pounds giving it a 10.8 power-to-weight ratio. However, the B1 and B2 are now very similar in size and weight and both need more than six seconds to run from 0 to 60 mph.

The bed on the truck is 49 inches wide by 69 inches long. With the internal cab tailgate down, truck can carry full-sized 4-foot x 8-foot sheets of plywood. Just like in the SUV, the rear window opens permitting stacking storage to the roof, meaning it can handle 72 sheets of ½-inch plywood.

Like the B1, the B2 will also be a Class 3 work truck (10,001 gross vehicle weight rating) with a hauling capacity of 5,000 pounds. Both the SUV and truck will be available in four-door version initially with two-door models coming online later, officials said.
