The Hyundai Sonata gets a complete exterior makeover for the 2020 model year.

Hyundai’s spent much of the last 12 to 18 months playing catch up with its sport-utility portfolio; however, today it got back to one of the vehicles that helped to drive much of its success a few years ago, introducing an updated all-new 2020 Sonata.

The eight-generation sedan, which is the automaker’s longest-standing and most successful product, bowed at the New York International Auto Show. The latest iteration features a complete exterior update, separating it from its predecessors and showcasing Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy.

Not only does the new Sonata get new sheet metal, it also gets an all-new Smartstream G2.5 GDI engine and segment-first technology that can be personalized, the automaker noted. Fortunately, loyal Sonata buyers won’t have to wait long for the new model as production begins in September at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama with sales following in October.

“Sonata is our signature product,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, product, corporate and digital planning, Hyundai Motor America.

“Having been one of our first and most successful nameplates, Sonata is our legacy, and it needs to be special and memorable in all attributes. Sonata signifies our vision for future Hyundai designs, great active safety systems and cutting-edge technology that is effortless.”
