Hyundai is looking to make a splash at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month with a new electric vehicle concept that uses the past as its inspiration for the future — and offers it up with an odd name.
The South Korean automaker plans to debut its 『45』fully electric concept by drawing its design from the company’s first vehicle from the 1970s. The design will act as the basis, the company says, for its future EV design.
The new concept accentuates the forward-driven design direction while exploring the evolution of Hyundai’s “Sensuous Sportiness” design language.

“Sensuous” stands for enhanced emotional values that customers can experience through design, and “Sportiness’ is determined to implement those values through innovative mobility solutions.
The teaser photo released Thursday reveals an almost DeLorean-looking rear end. The design borrows heavily from the sharply angled designs that were very popular at the time.
Specifically, it takes from 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe concept, which became Hyundai’s first mass-produced vehicle in 1975. The exterior came from ItalDesign. The car was made from 1975 through 1990, although the name remained in use until 2000 on export versions of Hyundai Excel and Accent.
