Hyundai’s Veloster Grappler Concept coming to SEMA shows off the vehicles off-road capability.
The 2019 SEMA show is fast approaching and the vehicles on display typically fit into one of two categories: fast and powerful or off-road beast — the Hyundai Veloster Grappler is definitely the latter.
The South Korean automaker’s Veloster is a small hatch that already includes a hot hatch variant, the Veloster N, so the company decided to show what it can do when its off the tarmac.
The Grappler concept boasts increased ground clearance, combining superb approach and departure angles for confident off-roading capability, while custom front and rear brush guards were developed to ensure the Veloster Grappler is protected whenever the terrain turns unpredictable, the company noted.

However, it’s not just a designed to crawl around on rough trails. With oversized all-terrain tires and rally-themed Method Racing wheels, it remains true to its sporty heritage. Contributing to that overall feel are Borla cat-back exhaust components provide that rally car sound matching the rally car image.
Heading off into the middle of nowhere means you need to bring stuff, and the Grappler has that covered with a roof-mounted Thule utility basket and a high-output lighting system from Baja Designs. A full host of roof-mounted utility lights provides plenty of functionality for whatever’s needed: work lights, nighttime off-roading lights, etc.
The 2019 Hyundai Veloster N puts out 275 horsepower and 260 foot-pounds of torque.
In addition to helping carry necessary “stuff,” the utility basket also serves as a base mount for the removable solar panel from Goal Zero. The panel supplies the juice for an all-electric portable power station mounted inside the cabin for remote journeys.

A custom vinyl exterior body wrap features a ghosted Hyundai-themed livery. Finally, a Seibon carbon-fiber hood effectively vents excess engine bay heat when things heat up out on the road.
Tough and capable on the outside means tough and capable on the inside as well with an integrated roll bar to protect occupant. The roll bar also carries the full-size spare wheel and tire. The interior also features traction mats, an oversized utility shovel, a Goal Zero portable power station, roadside assistance kit, first aid kit, Napier outdoor dome tent, Scosche Mounts, Goal Zero crush lights and premium Recaro seats finished in a vintage houndstooth check pattern.
Exterior lighting is modulated through a custom-designed switch panel. Hyundai genuine accessories round out the functionality of the vehicle, adding sport pedals, a sport shifter, all-weather mats, ambient footwell lighting and cargo blocks.
