The Tesla Model 3 sedan is becoming a popular choice for fleets looking to have battery-electric cabs.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s vision of a fleet of Model 3 robo-taxis may be coming true sooner than even he expected as the EV maker has inked a deal with German cab company.

Taxi Norman, a Düsseldorf taxi company, has ordered 50 Tesla Model 3 vehicles to update its fleet. According to the German website RP Online, the company is investing €230,000 to modernize its vehicles. Erol Norman, Taxi Norman managing director, said that is just the start of the company’s plans. The 50 electric-powered Model 3 taxis are expected to be added during the next few weeks, each worth €45,000.

Perhaps just as importantly, Düsseldorf officials are trying to make the addition of not just the Model 3 sedans but also other electric vehicles as taxi easier and more economical by installing charging stations dedicated to cabs.

The taxi company plans to convert its entire fleet to electric vehicles by 2023, Electrek.com reported. Tesla likely enjoys some goodwill in Germany with the recent announcement of Berlin as the location for its European Gigafactory.

The Tesla Model 3 is becoming a favorite of cab companies around the world.

Düsseldorf’s move to set up recharging areas makes it more viable. Tesla, unlike no other EV maker, understand the value in being able to charge EVs quickly and easily. In fact, the automaker just announced its global Supercharger network just surpassed 15,000 units.

The automaker has installed more than 2,000 new Superchargers during the second half of the year, Electrek.com reported, including the first of the long-awaited Supercharger V3 stations. Among those new V3 stations, which charge vehicles at the fastest rate yet, is a new one designed to link Phoenix and Los Angeles.

The opening of several new stations this month pushed the total past 15,000 Superchargers at 1,716 locations around the world. The company just launched its trans-Canada Supercharger network, only adding to Tesla’s lead in the number of chargers.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk believes that the Model 3 can be converted into a fleet of robs-taxi cabs in the future.

Not only can the company’s Model 3 charge faster with the new V3 stations, but also the entry-level sedans are now faster than ever courtesy of Tesla’s latest over-the-air update.

Tesla has officially launched “Acceleration Boost,” a $2,000 over-the-air software upgrade that makes the 0 to 60 mph acceleration of the Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range go down to 3.9 seconds. The upgrade is, so far at least, only available to Model 3 Dual Motor Long Range owners.

Some Tesla owners also got a new update giving the a “sneak peek” at the company full self-driving program. The update came with several updates including new voice commands, text message reading, and new Autopilot visualizations (i.e. full self-driving). The update didn’t go to the entire fleet at this point, just a few as it’s being rolled out in stages.
