Visteon revealed its latest technology at CES 2020. The Microzone digital display uses flat panels to provide crisp images.

The part consumers touch the most in any vehicle, the interior, is going through something of a revolution as new technology is brought inside the vehicle to help enhance safety and provide new or additional options.

Visteon Corp., a supplier of automotive electronics technology for the cockpit, used CES 2020 to display a range of technology designed to enhance the driving experience by enabling the transformation of cockpits to an all-digital environment.

“The cockpit is evolving to a fully digital environment with multiple curved, flexible displays that show information about the driving environment, vehicle dynamics and safety, as well as connected multimedia content,” said Sachin Lawande, Visteon president and CEO.

“This transition requires the development of several new technologies to enhance the complete driving experience. As a global leader in multi-display modules and centralized computers, we will show our latest innovations that address this digital transformation at CES,” Lawande said.

Visteon’s multicurved display gives the driver a more focused view of the gauges.

Digital displays are key enablers of the cockpit of the future, and during CES Visteon showed off new ones that deliver exceptional brightness and contrast with a rich color spread.

This patent-pending technology is designed to bridge the gap between LCD and OLED display technologies, keeping rigorous automotive requirements in mind. Visteon also displayed a flexible rotating glass cockpit, which can bend around the driver in sport mode or bend back to flat mode to allow the front passenger to view the display.

Digital cockpit displays are becoming larger, curved and flexible, with multiple displays integrated with a glass cover lens that gives the entire system a seamless and high-quality look and feel.

At CES, Visteon showed innovations ranging from 3D clusters with eye-catching pop-out safety alerts to its new, breakthrough display that delivers pure, deep black and vibrant colors with high brightness – without sacrificing reliability, Visteon officials said.

Visteon technology platforms cover four key areas, including driver information with digital clusters and multidisplay modules, an industry-first cockpit domain controller, enhanced safety domain controllers for Level 2-plus automated driving and Android-based infotainment solutions.

The presentation of driver information includes the company’s new, patent-pending high-dynamic range display technology offers high contrast and brightness and wide array of colors that enables automotive displays to achieve parity with consumer mobile devices with lifelike imaging capability.

Designed to accelerate the development and commercialization of more energy-efficient, cost-effective digital display solutions, microZone is considered the first automotive display to offer superior optical performance without sacrificing automotive reliability. Since it is based on mature LCD technology, it passes rigorous automotive qualification requirements without susceptibility to burn-in.

“Next-generation automotive cockpit displays need optical performance that is competitive with mobile devices that consumers have come to expect,” Lawande said. “MicroZone is the first display technology that offers premium optical performance at a competitive price point for automakers, without sacrificing reliability or life-span. In that sense, microZone is an effective alternative to OLED for automakers.”
