Are you considering purchasing an extended warranty for your Mercedes? In this article, our review team discusses the details of Mercedes’ extended warranty plan and how this plan compares to leading third-party warranty providers.

Mercedes Extended Warranty: The Basics

A Mercedes extended warranty extends the 4-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that protects new Mercedes vehicles from manufacturing defects. Mercedes’ extended warranty offers additional protection up to 3 years/100,000 miles.

You can also get such a plan from a third-party company. We’ve researched the extended warranty industry extensively, and recommend Endurance, CARCHEX and CarShield if you’re considering an extended warranty.

It’s wise to get a minimum of three quotes, as pricing will vary based on your vehicle, location, and more.

Mercedes Extended Warranty Coverage

While Mercedes’ factory warranty is better than the average 3 year/36,000 miles factory warranty, many Mercedes owners seek additional coverage when their factory warranty runs out.

There is no question that Mercedes builds some of the best vehicles on the road, but the company’s dependability rating fell below the industry average in the J.D. Power 2020 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM.

The Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty offers Mercedes owners an extra one, two, or three years of protection, and up to 100,000 additional miles. It may be purchased at any time prior to the expiration of the Mercedes factory warranty.

In addition to covering your vehicle from costly repairs, Mercedes’ plan includes rental cars, trip interruption coverage, and roadside assistance.

Mercedes’ extended warranty requires you to take your vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership in order to be fixed. And, also like the New Vehicle Limited Mercedes Warranty, the Mercedes Extended Warranty also comes with some repair exclusions, listed below.

The plan also notes that it will not cover damage caused by the improper maintenance or use of third-party parts, fluids, or body repairs.

  • Vehicle batteries
  • Tires
  • Shock absorbers/suspension struts
  • Phone and communications service infrastructure
  • Soft top, glass, paint and appearance items
  • Vehicle used for commercial purposes

Dealership Vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty

In general, purchasing an extended warranty for your Mercedes from a Mercedes dealership will cost much more than an extended warranty from a reputable third-party provider.

There are a few reasons that purchasing from a dealership costs more than a third-party provider. First, Mercedes has greater brand recognition than other warranty providers and can simply charge more because of its prestigious name. Second, when you purchase an extended warranty from a Mercedes dealership, you get Mercedes-Benz replacement parts for your vehicle. These parts are sometimes of a higher quality and therefore more expensive than replacement parts from other companies.

While a dealership warranty does come with some benefits, plenty of Mercedes owners find that a third-party warranty works just as well for them. With a reputable third-party extended warranty provider such as CARCHEX or Endurance, your vehicle can be fixed by ASE certified mechanics trained to fix your vehicle with high-quality replacement parts.

CARCHEX and Endurance also beats Mercedes’ extended warranty plan on the four common warranty comparison categories below:

  1. Maximum length of coverage
  2. Number of coverage plans
  3. Repair network
  4. Accessibility of free quote

Provider Maximum Length of Coverage Number of Coverage Plans Repair Network  Accessibility of Free Quote
Mercedes 7 years/100,000 miles 1 Only Mercedes dealerships Must speak with dealer for pricing
CARCHEX 10 years/150,000 miles 5 Any licensed repair facility Free, customized quote online
Endurance 20 years/200,000 miles  5 ASE-Certified® repair facilities Free, customized quote online

Is Your Mercedes Factory Warranty Still Active?

Mercedes factory warranties are provided by Mercedes-Benz to ensure that every new and certified pre-owned Mercedes is covered from any needed repairs, defects, or part failures for a specified period of time or miles.

Every new Mercedes-Benz vehicle is covered by the New Vehicle Limited Mercedes Warranty, which covers your vehicle bumper-to-bumper for 4 years/50,000 miles.

If you own a certified pre-owned Mercedes, it is also covered by the Certified Pre-Owned Limited Mercedes Warranty, which provides additional coverage for 12 months or up to 100,000 miles.

As with all warranties, there are some exclusions. Mercedes will not cover repairs to these components of your vehicle under its factory warranty.

  • Wheel alignment and balancing
  • Brake pads
  • Brake discs
  • Glass
  • Wiper blades and inserts
  • Remote control key batteries

If you experience problems with your vehicle within the factory warranty period, you will need to take your vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership. The dealership will cover the cost of the needed repair(s) that fall under the factory warranty conditions.
